Accountability and Advancement
Teacher accountability and advancement represents the process whereby teachers are assessed or evaluated as well as resulting advancement and leadership opportunities. In the last several years, many components of this process have been challenged and the following questions have been raised and reform efforts have initiated as a result:
- How should teachers be held accountable for their practice and in what ways can teachers advance in their careers?
- What considerations should be taken into account when developing alternative pay systems for teachers?
- What is the impact of pay for performance programs? What are the advantages and drawbacks of the components that comprise these programs?
- What assessment tools are available for the observation, assessment, and evaluation of teachers?
